How to fight spam
With your Toneee.com
shared web hosting account, you will have robust tools
to filter out junk mail, viruses, trojans, and other threats.
Below is a brief description of the tools available with every
Toneee.com shared web
hosting account.
SpamAssassin. This software, available through
the ControlCentre, uses
a wide variety of local and network tests to identify junk
mail. The subject of each suspected email is prepended with
the word "SPAM" so that you can easily identify
spam test results.
Spam Box. A part of SpamAssassin, this collects
all messages marked as SPAM and delivers them to a separate
"Spam" folder so that they are separated from your
normal email.
Clam AV™. This antivirus system delivers
industry-leading protection from a wide range of threats –
from viruses, Trojans, and spyware, to other forms of malware.
Clam AV also includes anti-phishing
technology. The signature database is updated multiple
times daily and contains more than 150,000 signatures. In
plain English, this means that we offer protection from common
and new threats 'round the clock.
BoxTrapper. If you are completely sick of
filtering spam, this lovely feature places all incoming email
into a special queue. Senders must first verify they are actually
a human being (and not a spam machine) by verifying a special
confirmation email. You can also "whitelist" your
friends, coworkers, and websites you want to receive mail
from. Likewise, you can "blacklist" websites or
email addresses that you can't seem to get away from! BoxTrapper
has proven to be a successful tactic in fighting heavy spam
problems.

Ask the professionals...
What is spam?
"SPAMMING" is the practice of sending large amounts
of promotional emails or advertisements (and scams) to a list
of people that have not asked for it. Popular advertisements
include adult content, prescription drugs, and online degrees.
What is phishing?
Phishing is an attempt to fraudulently steal your personal
information, by pretending to be a trustworthy company. For
example, you may receive an email that asks for your social
security number. The email may contain your bank's logo, and
may even lead you to a website that appears to be your bank.
If you're not careful, this can easily lead to identity theft.
What are viruses, trojans, spyware, and malware?
These are small programs that are made specifically to run
on your machine without your consent. They can do anything
from slow down (or disable) your computer to report your every
move to identity thieves. These threats can be minimized by
installing reputable antivirus software. Our shared
web hosting accounts also include an optional antivirus
tool to impede attempts to deliver viruses via email. (Note:
You should still purchase antivirus software to check for
threats that are installed through means other than email.)
Does your hosting service have tools to fight spam,
viruses, and phishing scams?
Absolutely! We have an award winning antivirus system available
to check incoming email for the most common threats. You will
also have the option to turn on SpamAssissin, SpamBox, and
BoxTrapper.
